William Burns  

William Eugene "Bill" Burns, 79, of Delavan, passed away at 9:10 am Monday, November 27, 2017 at his home.

He was born January 11, 1938 in Pekin to Hobart and Freda McGinnis Burns. He married Betty L. Clark on October 29, 1960 in Delavan, and she survives.

Also surviving are one son, Glen Eugene Burns of Delavan; two daughters, Kimberly Ilene Burns of Pekin and Dawn Marie Burns of Peoria; five grandchildren, Ty William Bledsoe, Holbart "Darren" Burns, Angelina Renae Burns, Tianna Jade Bledsoe, and Shy Lynn Burns; Six great grandchildren, Adreanah, Jaxson, Makayla, Noah, Avah, and Lincoln; two sisters, Beverly Grimes of Peoria and Barbara Carter of Peru, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Merry Christine Burns; one great grandson, Jeffery Burns; one brother, Robert Burns; and one sister, Joanne Hammond.

Bill farmed in Tazewell and Mason Counties and was a truck driver from 1990 to 2017.

He served in the National Guard between the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

Bill was a faithful man of God and was a member of Delavan Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and served on the session. He was a member of Tazewell County Farm Bureau, and was active in the Tazewell County 4-H helping his children with their projects.

He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved comedy and could relay a funny story and has a large collection of Family Circus cartons, which was his favorite.

A celebration of life will be at 1:00 pm Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Delavan Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Delavan Presbyterian Church. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation. Burial will be in Green Valley Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
