Robert "Bob" Dale Albers, 82, of San Jose, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 at his home.
He was born February 4, 1935 in Delavan to Richard and Lena Oltmanns Albers. He married LaVera Bergman on July 22, 1956 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Emden, and she passed away November 19, 2017.
Surviving are two sons, Kim (Debra) Albers and Aaron Albers, both of San Jose; two daughters, Jan (Rick) Forsythe of Manito and Ann (Rick Guentner) of San Jose; six grandchildren, Elise Albers, Ean Albers, Sara Albers, Jaci Forsythe, Abby Forsythe, Josh (Kari) Gattung; four great grandchildren, Jackson Albers, Addison Gattung, Brody Gattung, and Cooper Gattung; one granddaughter-in-law, Liz Albers Oyer of Tremont; one brother, Leland (Lucy) Albers of San Jose; two sisters-in-law, Alberta (Bob) Gardner of Delavan and Beverly (Gary) Briggs of CO; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Eric Albers and one son-in-law, Kevin Gattung.
Robert was a 1952 graduate of Delavan High School and a 1956 graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he majored in agricultural education. He began his teaching career at Sumner High School, teaching there one year. Robert then moved to San Jose where he taught agriculture and advised the local FFA chapter at the high school. He also drove a school bus for San Jose Unit School District and later for the Illini Central School District. Bob retired from teaching in 1974 and started Ma-Taz-Lo Real Estate. He sold Wausau Homes and was a Country Companies Insurance Agent.
Robert was involved in many organizations and groups in the community. He was a member of the San Jose United Methodist Church, where he served and also chaired many committees. He served as a trustee for Green Hill Cemetery, served as trustee for the San Jose Fire Protection District, holding the secretary-treasurer office for many years. He also was a past member of the San Jose Lion's Club.
He enjoyed gardening and fishing. He loved attending his grandchildren's athletic and school events and enjoyed watching Jeopardy.
His funeral will be at 11:00 am Monday, January 8, 2018 at the San Jose United Methodist Church. Pastor Charles McDonald will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 pm Sunday, at the church fellowship hall and one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in San Jose. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan is handling the arrangements.
