Walter James "Jim" Donley, Jr., 88 of Delavan, passed on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Pekin Manor nursing home after an extended illness.
Jim was born in Peoria, Illinois on March 27, 1930 to Walter and Mary Gould Donley. He was a 1948 graduate of Delavan High School and attended Illinois State University.
Jim served as a Staff Sergeant in Co. B of the Illinois National Guard during the Korean War. After his discharge from active service he went to work for William F. Donley as an insurance agent at the Donley Agency in Delavan and took over the business when W.F. became ill.
On February 4, 1951, Jim married Marjorie Klokkenga, also of Delavan. They had two sons, Brian James Donley, Muncie, In. and Brad William Donley, of Delavan. Jim is survived by Marjorie, Brian, Brad, his sister Emily Cullinan, ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his sister Mary Helen Strawbridge and a granddaughter, Billie Sue Donley.
He was a active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Delavan, serving as Deacon, Elder, church treasurer and Sunday school teacher. He served as the Delavan Township clerk for 25 years. Jim was also an active member of the Delavan Rotary Club, Delavan Business Men's Club, a lifetime member of the American Legion and a Mason.
His funeral will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Delavan Presbyterian Church. Pastor Jean Sparks will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Monday and one hour before the service, both at the church. Burial will be in Prairie Rest Cemetery in Delavan with military honors by Delavan American Legion Post 382.
